Spring Hill Elementary

Est. 2020
Garden Liaison: Rebecca Winton
Spaces Supported: Vegetable Garden, Native Landscaping
Student Engagement: Afterschool Garden Club, Daytime Curricular Enrichment

Spring Hill Elementary has both a vegetable garden and a large native landscaping area, areas maintained by Ms. Rebecca Winton and her Garden Club. The YGEP connected with Ms. Winton in the Spring of 2024, helping her and the club to determine their growing priorities and streamlining the production process. Since then, the YGEP has helped to lead the weekly Garden Club, teaching students a variety of planting and maintenance techniques for optimal plant health and vegetable production, as well as offering daytime curricular enrichment to teachers. The YGEP helped to expand their vegetable growing by adding an in-ground portion to their production area in the Spring of 2025, along with adding to the visual definition and safety of their native landscaping by building a fence around the perimeter. YGEP staff is now in the process of redesigning the native landscaping to make it more educational and accessible for teachers and students.
