The Brown Community Garden partnered with the UTK Jones Center for Leadership and Service (JCLS) once again, this time to support their Ignite extended orientation program at the beginning of the 2026 fall semester.
One of the most important components of Ignite is its emphasis on community service, and that’s where the Alliance comes in!
On August 13, the Alliance hosted two volunteer shifts—one in the morning and one in the afternoon. All of the volunteers were incoming freshmen who stayed positive, energetic, and motivated despite the brutal summer heat and humidity!
Both groups helped lay cardboard and mulch around the garden beds to suppress weeds and keep the garden looking its best. We are incredibly thankful for our continued partnership with JCLS and look forward to working with them again.
Volunteers from UTK make up a huge part of our volunteer force at the Brown Community Garden, and we truly could not maintain the garden without their continued support! Thank you UTK Volunteers!
