Volunteer workday at Brown Community Garden

On Saturday, November 2, 2024, 19 volunteers, consisting of 9 UT students, 8 Knox County Master Gardeners, and 2 others, volunteered at the Brown Community Garden at 2723 Louise Avenue. There was much work to do and much was accomplished. In the 36 bed garden, the 8 okra beds and 8 tomato beds were cleared and made ready for cover crops.

In the 64 bed garden, a huge pile of wood chips were placed on top of cardboard in the quadrant known as Section D. The thick cover of wood chips on top of the cardboard will hopefully curb the growth of the bermuda grass or at least make it a lot easier to pull up.

Many thanks to all who participated, and everyone is invited to come out and volunteer on one of the Alliance’s workdays!
